DatabasesDatabases, collections of records that can be sorted and accessed by computer, are available online. Free databases contributed by volunteers are available through several Web sites, including MIGenWeb projects and RootsWeb.com. Go to your county of interest on the MIGenWeb site to check for the availability of databases. Links to alumni lists; census, land, and vital records; book and plat indexes; and other genealogical information can be found on RootsWeb's User-Contributed Databases page. Subscription-based databases are available through several sites, including Ancestry.com. Ancestry's Michigan databases include census records, vital records, and historical and biographical information. For more information about databases, see Chapter 9 in Michigan Genealogy. |
