MIGenWeb

Michigan Genealogy on the Web is part of the USGenWeb Project, a volunteer effort to place genealogical data online. USGenWeb began in 1996 as an outgrowth of the Kentucky Comprehensive Database Project, also known as the KyGenWeb Project. Volunteers coordinate each state-level and county-level page in the USGenWeb Project.

In Michigan, most counties have a county-level page, and there are several state-level projects, such as the Michigan Tombstone Transcription Project and the Michigan Research Exchange, on the state-level page. At the county-level, the amount of information varies, but many sites include vital records, county and township histories, census and land records, county maps and directories, obituaries, biographies, queries, surname registries, photo albums, and more.

Some of the county-level pages in the MIGenWeb project serve as county-level pages in the American Local History Network or the American History and Genealogy Project.

A companion site for the book Michigan Genealogy.
