Probate

Probate records are court records that deal with the distribution of an estate after its owner's death. Probate records include wills, bonds of executors or administrators, executor and administrator accounts, inventories of personal property, appraisements, and sales accounts. The records also may include guardianship appointments.

Probate records are generally found at the county level. Some probate records have been moved to the State Archives of Michigan. Circular No. 6 describes the holdings. Abstracts of probate records may be found on several of the county-level MIGenWeb site.
