Wexford CountyFirst named Kautawaubet, the county was created in 1840 from Mackinac County. In 1843 its name was changed to Wexford. County government was organized in 1869, with the seat established at Sherman. In 1881 the seat was changed to Manton, and in 1882 the seat was changed to Cadillac. County
